Changing the default printer

Summary

This article explains how to change the default printer in your computer.  This is part of the trouble-shooting procedure for a variety of problems.

Windows XP

  1. Select Start, Printers and Faxes
  2. Note the printer icon that has a checkmark - this is your default printer
  3. Right click on another printer icon, and select "Set as default printer"
  4. Try the WinWay Resume program again
  5. If this solves the problem - then the cause is the printer driver
  6. To restore the original printer driver, repeat the above steps and choose the printer that was originally selected

Windows Vista

  1. Select Start, Control Panel
  2. Under "hardware and sound", click on "Printer"
  3. The currently selected "Default" printer shows a green checkmark
  4. Right click on "Microsoft XPS Document", and select "Set as default printer"
  5. Try the WinWay Resume program again
  6. If this solves the problem - then the cause is the printer driver
  7. To restore the original printer driver, repeat the above steps and choose the printer that was originally selected

Windows 7, 8 or 10

  1. Select Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers
  2. Look at the are titles "Printers and faxes"
  3. One of the printers has a green checkmark.  This is the "Default printer"
  4. Locate the printer named "Microsoft XPS Document Writer", right click on it, and select "Set as default printer"
  5. Try the WinWay Resume program again
  6. If this corrected the problem, than the printer driver is the cause of the problem
  7. To restore the original printer driver, repeat the above steps and choose the printer that was originally selected
